A cookie is a text file that may be stored, depending on your settings, in a dedicated space on your device’s hard drive (your personal computer, tablet or smartphone) when you consult an online service using your web browser. It is sent by the web server to your web browser. Every cookie has a unique and anonymous identifier. The cookie file allows its issuer to identify the device on which it is stored until the cookie in question has expired. A cookie cannot be used to identify a specific individual.
